Craig Wetherby x Milk Tonight!
Big City of Dreams
Every now and then I have to go to California, not usually because I want to. But this time I actually chose to go to LA for a few days. More like a day and a half actually but I think I got it all in.

Welcome to California

This is when I knew I wasn't in NY anymore. Whoa.

Then I met my twin brother - bugged out right?

Then headed up to the hills

To puff down with my homey Jmo - thanks for the hospitality fams!

The next day we hit the ill crepe spot with the ex KGB dude's daughter hooking em up

Then shit really started to get good - good ol California Compassion!

Yerp!

Mr. Nice Guy son!

Purp!

Too bad this is all you do all day out there

But its still a small ass world - ran straight into homey Steve at some random ass bar

And homey Tunde too! Too crazy son

And that was pretty much a wrap

Let's get outta here - I've got to get to Uncle Craig's show!!

Vans x Marisa Miller

A clear indication that there is absolutely no end to the contstant stream of collabos out there, Vans has x'd with model Marisa Miller for a line of footwear. You got to give it to them, people might be sick of collabos but they'll never be sick of models! Last night at the Cabanas at the Maritime was like a summit of magazine editors. Yes these are the illuminati that control the media. Funny, they seem like regular people.

Antenna's Kaity and Jenni Lee - thanks for making me famous!

Natasha and Pat Conlon

Paper's Michelle Lindsay and Women's Health's Maria Bedevia looking fly!

Maxim's Kelly Rae - we can still see you!

If it's anything worth doing you know Uncle Craig is up in there

Men's Vogue Man About Town Mordechai Rubinstein and entourage

Nylon's Jared Flint

Virgin's Carter - hey buddy!

CCS Girlz!

a NY moment

Skatin east on 25th the other day I seen two dudes scrapping heavy in the intersection. All of a sudden the bigger dude (not pictured) grabbed the littler dudes chick's suitcase and dumped that shit all over the street. The little dude then ran after the big dude and was like "I know where you live motherfucker, I know where you live!" and the chick the whole while just sat there bewildered while all the cars and white people passed her by without offering to help for shit. What a fuckin world.

Eat to Live
My good homey Darryl Phillips from the ICU did Talib Kweli's latest video "Eat to Live." The song, about the lack of healthy food options and subsequent bad eating habits in the hood is a rare positive gem of a track that addresses an actual problem that incomprehensibly gets almost no attention from the media or our society at large. I guess Bloomberg is too busy putting up 15 million dollar fake waterfalls to work on getting some veggies into the projects. I'm not hating on those waterfalls but damn.

Philadelphia Free!
Freeway made a surprising appearance at BLVD the other night. Not a surprise appearance mind you, but a surprising one cause the club is wack. Free, however, came with his grizzly in full force and tore it down for a good half hour before bouncing around with his homie and picking up all the chicks in the spot, which was mad easy cause all the dudes in there were wack - ha I hate that spot!

Crystal Castles SD
Crystal Castles murdered San Diego this weekend.
Just peep the pics - these Canadian freaks are killing it!!! The crowd wasn't moshing, they were straight blobbing, as in one drugged out gelatinous mass that was overflowing onto the stage to the extent that every single injury I had from the skate race was being penetrated by some emo punk goth's elbow. I can't say I'm fucking with them one hundred percent, but this show was off the sneezy. Big up Tedo for the cam!

New LTD Website!

My good homie Hawaii Mike has been running LTD Magazine for the last couple of years now. Created with the concept in mind that a magazine should be as exclusive as the shit inside of it, LTD prints a scant number of copies and unless you know him personally or really have some shit going on, you' arent getting a copy. Thankfully, he's finally launched a website to give people a taste of what they are missing. Check it out here.

Bringing a Knife to a Gun Fight
On Saturday, the 10th annual Central Park skateboard race went down. Sponsored by the NY Longboard Association the event is a fucking trip and brings out an entire subculture that you would never know existed in NY. People even came in from other states and overseas for this shit! After congregating randomly by Columbus Circle, under the watchful eye of mad jakes no less, about 200 of us bombed the park's entire 6.2 mile circuit. Of course, we were repping Shut to the fullest but were also the only crew that decided to rock short decks instead of wile cruisers - kinda like bringing a knife to a gunfight. We mighta looked cooler, but we got our asses whipped on time. The fact that I bailed shirtless at about 40mph didn't help my finish either, although I got right back on that bitch and still made it in about 38 minutes. But considering the winner, and new record breaker, clocked in at 22 minutes, my time wasn't shit. Funniest moment was when, after I ate shit, some old bag about 4'11'' and 90 years old started yelling at me like "you're stupid, you're stupid!" and then to no one in particular, "look at this guy, he's bleeding all over, he's so crazy, he's so stupid!" If I wasn't so bummed that I smashed my ill Samsung NV11 I woulda tossed this lady in a ditch. So if any one wants to bless the Caranguejo with a new cam (same model preferably) that would be dope.
Peep the action below! Additional pics by Michael (after my shit broke - thanks yo!)

Lots of dudes on longboards = looks like we came to the right place.

Ricky Powell: Illy Funksters

Last night Milk Gallery hosted a photo exhibition for Ricky Powell. Entitled "Illy Funksters," the show presented the definitive collection of Powell's works. From mind bogglingly dope pics of legends like The Beastie Boys and Run DMC in their heyday to raw unposed images of icons like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Powell's photographs intimately and naturally capture an era of explosive creativity and artistic and musical innovation the likes of which will probably never be seen again.
The show started at 7pm and by 7:30 was already rammed out. While every event at Milk goes off, "Illy Funksters" was an extra special affair. There's perhaps no better way to personify the group of people that converged on the gallery other than in Ricky's own words. "This was amazing," he said while speaking with Milk's Rassi at the show's conclusion. "There was not one jerk off in the whole place. There was not one person that I looked up and saw and said 'aww man, this jerk off is here!'"
With wine, brews and vodka Red Bulls flowing and DJ Stretch Armstrong pumping pure bass like it was going out of style, "Illy Funksters" was easily the best event of its ilk this year. If only every night could be this fresh. The show will run until June 10th. To purchase one of these historical pieces contact Giada at Milk at giada@milkstudios.com. Peep the pics below.

Dancehall Krush Groove
Leading the pack of emerging Jamaican artists who are finally injecting authentic reggae and dancehall sound into the current electrocraze movement, 77Klash is well known to any disciple of Diplo or Sinden. But not many people know that 77Klash's "Brooklyn Anthem" (which is featured on Madden '08) also took on a life of it's own as "The Craziest Riddim" and is at the epicenter of a Caribbean expatriate cultural phenomenon. Listen to the man who produced "Notorious" for Turbulence and "The Swarm" riddim explain how an underground anthem built for BK yardies and embraced by Williamsburg hipsters became a hood teenage dance craze.

Tour de Brooklyn
Taking advantage of the ill weather this weekend, a bunch of us bumrushed the Tour de Brooklyn. We didn't bother to register, which would have been a colossal waste of time, and in all honesty, with all the holdups we bounced on that shit in Bushwick and went to Noah's crib in Crown Hizzle before going big at Christies and hitting Prospect Park. It was a dope ass day though. To everyone who pussied out on the ride - ya snoozed kidz!

TTR hits NYC
The Swatch TTR (which stands for Ticket To Ride) grand assembly hit NYC last week to politik on the state of competitive snowboarding's future. Led by the snowboarding legend Terje Haakonsen, TTR is a global series of contests that crown a male and female winner each year and blesses them with a boatload of cash. This year it was Kevin Pearce and Jamie Anderson taking the dough for the men and women respectively. To cap the whole thing off, TTR held a suare at the Swatch flagship store in Times Square. Why the hell do it there, you ask, well Swatch happens to be the major sponsor of the whole thing, so let them live a little. It was a good time. Peep the pics below.
The Dingo with Kevin Pearce and TTR's Matt Johnson
Paper Mag's Michelle Lindsay with some designer dudes and Jamie Anderson
